We recently celebrated the commitment, innovation, and loyalty of our employees during the sixth edition of the Shujaa Awards Ceremony, an event that has become emblematic of the bank’s culture of appreciation. Held at Le Méridien Hotel, the ceremony honoured 63 employees for their outstanding contributions to the collective success of the organisation. These awards embody the core values that drive the bank: trust, ingenuity, stewardship, inclusion, and courage.

A tribute to human excellence
Every year, the Shujaa Awards highlight emerging talents shaping the future of Absa, and long-serving employees who are the true pillars of the bank. This year, awards were presented in the following categories:

  • Innovation Award
  • Absa Value Award
  • Deal of the Year Award
  • Best Idea Generated Award
  • Customer Obsession Award
  • Special Achievement Award
  • CEO Award

This year, we introduced two new award categories to recognise colleagues who are actively contributing to the bank’s Sustainability agenda and making a positive social impact:

  • Best Colleague Volunteering Project
  • Future-Focused Sustainability Pioneer Award

“It is truly an honour to be part of a team recognised for its commitment to sustainability and its positive impact on the community. This award is a testament to our collective efforts and our determination to bring meaningful change to people’s lives by being an active force for good,” said Cedrine Chimon Rampal, one of the recipients of the Future-Focused Sustainability Pioneer Award.

Celebrating long-standing loyalty
28 employees were also recognised for their years of service, ranging from 10 to 40 years. Steve Lim Ah Tock, who has dedicated 40 years of service to Absa, shared his emotion: “These 40 years have been filled with enriching experiences. Witnessing the evolution of the company and contributing to its success has been a true privilege. This award is a meaningful recognition of my journey at the bank.”

Recognition as a source of inspiration
For us, recognition goes beyond an annual ceremony; it is a cultural cornerstone and a deeply held belief. “The Shujaa Awards are not just a ceremony, they represent our commitment to valuing and appreciating our employees, who are central to our success. As a Top Employer 2025, Absa Mauritius remains committed to creating an environment where everyone can thrive and excel,” said Nesha Rosunally, Human Capital Lead: DEIB, Strategy, Recognition and People Risk at Absa Mauritius.

A year defined by human investment
In 2024, more than Rs 31 million was invested in the professional and personal development of teams. Over 480 employees received training through local and international institutions. A strong emphasis was also placed on promoting equity and women’s leadership, through initiatives such as the Gender and Women in Leadership Programme and the Gender Transformative Leadership Programme, which reached over 70 female employees.

A shared recognition
Absa Mauritius also extended heartfelt thanks to the families, loved ones, and partners of its employees who attended the ceremony, acknowledging their daily support in each employee’s success. The year 2024 thus marked a turning point, not only in terms of performance but also in terms of a more human-centric culture.
