Absa Mauritius has taken another significant step in its journey towards social inclusion by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Mauritius. This ambitious partnership is aimed at promoting equal opportunities and creating meaningful pathways for individuals with disabilities.

As part of the MoU, both institutions have committed to working together on several key initiatives, including:

  • Offering internship and fixed-term employment opportunities at Absa Mauritius for students with disabilities from the University of Mauritius.
  • Launching a joint Master’s programme under the Graduate Training Employment Scheme (GTES) supported by the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC).
  • Establishing a fully equipped, state-of-the-art inclusive learning lab funded by Absa Mauritius.
  • Organising customised training sessions, workshops, and conferences to help build the capacity of students concerned.

Ravin Dajee, Managing Director of Absa Mauritius, stated: “We are proud to deepen our efforts in inclusion through this collaboration with the University of Mauritius. This partnership is a true reflection of our purpose: Empowering Africa’s tomorrow, together… one story at a time. We know that driving inclusion is a continuous journey that requires unwavering commitment. As a bank dedicated to being an active force for good, we aim to create an inclusive and sustainable environment where every person with a disability is empowered to thrive, contribute meaningfully and realise their full potential.”

This partnership is in line with Absa Mauritius’s continued commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), which lie at the heart of its sustainability strategy. In this context, the bank actively works with partners such as the Global Rainbow Foundation (GRF), through concrete initiatives such as improving accessibility across its premises, supporting young people with disabilities via a mentorship programme, and creating a Financial Literacy Programme to equip participants with practical skills to help them manage their finances independently.

The bank has also been awarded the Top Employer 2025 certification, a recognition of its commitment to fostering an inclusive, diverse, and innovation-driven workplace culture.

Professor Sanjeev K Sobhee, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mauritius, added:
“It’s a real pleasure to formalise this partnership between the University of Mauritius and Absa Mauritius. This collaboration opens exciting new pathways for our students and reflects our shared vision of an inclusive, forward-looking education system that connects learning with real-world impact, ultimately contributing to national development goals.  We are proud to be working alongside Absa and grateful for their trust and commitment. Together, we look forward to making a lasting difference.”

Through this partnership with the University of Mauritius, Absa Mauritius reinforces its commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for people with disabilities and to building a society that is more inclusive and equitable for all.
