Absa Mauritius has once again demonstrated its leadership in responsible banking by successfully achieving the recertification of the ISO 37001 standard, the internationally recognised benchmark for anti-bribery management systems.
This milestone is more than a compliance achievement. It reflects our deep-rooted commitment to integrity, transparency and ethical conduct in everything we do, values that continue to define Absa Mauritius as a trusted financial institution and responsible corporate citizen.
“Integrity is part of our DNA. It shapes the way we make decisions, build relationships, and serve our clients,” said Yoshinee Parasuraman, Head of Compliance at Absa Mauritius.
“Achieving ISO 37001 recertification with zero non-conformities for anti-bribery management system, reaffirms that our governance and compliance frameworks are not only robust, but also deeply embedded in our culture.”
A standard beyond certification
The recertification process involved a comprehensive and independent audit, evaluating the bank’s policies, controls and ethical safeguards. The absence of any non-conformities underscores the rigour and effectiveness of Absa Mauritius’ anti-bribery management system, setting a benchmark for the local banking industry.
As the first and only bank in Mauritius to hold this certification, Absa Mauritius continues to strengthen the trust of its stakeholders, from regulators and business partners to clients and communities, by ensuring that integrity remains central to every aspect of its operations.
“Our stakeholders expect not only strong financial performance, but also assurance that we operate with integrity and transparency,” added Yoshinee. “This achievement gives that assurance and positions Absa Mauritius as a governance leader within the Mauritius International Financial Centre.”
Building a culture of trust and accountability
For Absa Mauritius, governance goes beyond policies. It’s a reflection of how the organisation lives its purpose. The ISO 37001 recertification aligns with Absa Group’s governance agenda and its strategic ambition to be an Active Force for Good across the continent, creating sustainable impact through ethical leadership and sound risk management.
This achievement coincides with Absa Group’s renewed 3 years sponsorship of the BEN-Africa (Business Ethics Network of Africa) Conference 2025, which will be hosted at Middlesex University Mauritius on the 6 and 7 November 2025. The conference brings together leaders, academics, and policymakers to reflect on ethics, governance, and innovation in Africa, reinforcing Absa’s long-standing advocacy for principled leadership and responsible business practices.
“Hosting such an important dialogue in Mauritius, at a time when Absa Mauritius is reaffirming its ISO 37001 certification, is both symbolic and inspiring,” said Yoshinee.
“It demonstrates that our country and our institution continue to lead by example, promoting a culture where transparency and ethics are not just compliance requirements, but shared values.”
Leading with Integrity
Through this recertification, Absa Mauritius reinforces its belief that good governance is good business. It strengthens the bank’s competitive advantage, supports Mauritius’ positioning as a trusted financial hub, and contributes to building an ecosystem where businesses thrive on integrity and trust.
At Absa, integrity is not an achievement, it’s a standard we live by. It is how we continue to empower Africa’s tomorrow, together, one story at a time.
