How do I make a once-off payment?

  1. Click or tap ‘Once-off payment’ and approve the verification request on your phone. Enter a name, up to 20 characters long, for the beneficiary.
  2. You will be asked if you want to save this person as a beneficiary. ‘No’ is selected by default for once-off payments. Choose ‘Yes’ if you change your mind and want to save this person as a beneficiary.
  3. Enter the first few letters of the beneficiary’s bank to see a list of bank names. Choose the bank where your beneficiary has their account.
  4. Enter part of their bank’s branch name or branch code to show a list of applicable branches. Choose the name or code that your beneficiary gave you. If your beneficiary banks with Absa, the selection of branch will be made automatically.
  5. Enter the account number and choose the account type your beneficiary gave you. If your beneficiary banks with Absa, the selection of account type will be made automatically.
  6. Choose the account that you want to pay from.
  7. Enter the amount of money you want to pay.
  8. Choose the date that you want to pay on. You can leave this the way it is. If you want the payment to go through some time in the future, change the date and time.
  9. If your beneficiary does not bank with Absa and you want the payment to clear immediately, choose ‘Immediate Interbank Payment’ (IIP). The IIP option will only be available if your beneficiary’s bank allows IIPs. This payment type costs more than a normal payment to another bank. See ‘Charges’ for the cost of an IIP.
  10. In ‘My reference’ enter a description, up to 20 characters long, that helps you identify the payment on your own account statement.
  11. In ‘Beneficiary reference’ enter a description, up to 20 characters long, that will help your beneficiary identify the payment on their account statement.
  12. If you or your beneficiary need to be notified of the payment once it is processed, choose which method to use. SMS and email are the most popular. A notice of payment is charged for. See ‘Charges’ for the cost of each payment notification type.
  13. Click or tap ‘Next’. Check the details and click or tap ‘Confirm’ to finish making your once-off payment. If you get a verification request, you must approve it on your phone first.
